Great Product
I bought this for my dorm and it's totally great. I can watch movies on it or take it out into the hall and have a hall dance party. It meets all needs and I was actually really surprised at the sound quality. For 70 bucks it rocks! The only issue is that it takes a few seconds to connect and when it's on and not playing music it buzzes alot. Easily fixed by turning it off and on though. Great Product.

not bad - but not great either
The obvious advantage is the lack of wiring - but the sound is a bit fuzzy and you can get interference from dogs and people walking around. Takes a boat load of batteries - but found some generic ones that were not too expensive but plan on spending 25+ for rechargeable batteries per speaker. For causal listening to music and the news out on the deck these are fine. but overall sound quality is not great.

Wireless Outdoor Speaker
I did not pay for "enhanced" shipping and the delivery took a while but once it was here I am very happy with it. It worked great just out of the box. Auto-shutdown feature (during non-use) is good but one time I seemed to struggle to get the thing to "wake-up". Probably "operator error" however, as I have not seemed to have that problem again.

We have XM on one of our "boomboxes" (in the kitchen) and all the wires and the antenna were a pain to move from room to room - we simply did not move them. The speaker is about 40 feet from the transmitter and works GREAT. In fact I almost believe that the "Old time radio" that I like to listen to is clearer on the remote speaker than on the boombox itself. Color me "Very Happy" with the purchase.

Now. . . Do I want to buy a second one for stereo?? Have to think about that! Let's see, Old Time Radio is monoaural anyway, isn't it? hmmm. . .

Next purchase - 8 rechargeable C batteries - the 110V power supply for the portable speaker will keep them charged when the thing is the in the home office (vast majority of the time) but we can also then just move the speaker itself to the patio or the workshop / garage. (Why didn't I test it in the workshop? It is closer to the base than the office!) The manual specifies that you should not have non-rechargeable batteries in it if you used the 110V power supply. You really don't need to read the manual (mostly intuitive) but it is so small you will finish it in one sitting in the "main reading room". Think about that last statement!!!

Sonic integrity, versatility, and value for money
About a month ago, I bought a pair of RTi12s as the outgoing model (they were replaced by the RTi 2008 series.) Little did I know how lucky my timing was; two weeks later, there were no more to be had. And I'd gotten them at just below half of MSRP from Amazon.com.

It was the price that got me to buy when I did, but now that I have lived with the RTi12s for a while, progressively adding components to my stereo, tuning it all, and trying to stay true to my goal of a modest budget, I believe that if I had paid the normal street price I would be no less impressed.

And I am impressed!

According to Polk Audio, "Mid-level amplifiers and receivers will bring out the best performance from RTi models", and thus not high-end audiophile gear, they imply. I believe them, but not because the audible result is less than exemplary. This is why:

As part of correspondence with one of Polk Audio's helpful customer service reps, I wrote

"So far, I have found a combination of two things to be most successful: setting the Onkyo DX-7555 CD player's digital filter to 'slow' (more analog-like, relaxed and warm) and rolling off the receiver's treble knob slightly. Since I don't have a dedicated equalizer, this seems to be my best bet. When I reduced the mid/treble amp's levels, I lost dynamics and sonority in the midrange, especially the lower mids.

Like some other owners, I find the RTi12 to be a bit bright. I can't speak for them, but by 'bright' I don't mean harsh in the treble range. Rather, with respect to treble, it almost seems they were designed to compensate for less capable equipment upstream in the audio chain.

True, with the CD player's filter set to 'sharp' (more digital-like and flat) I hear shimmering air in the sound field and almost bionic sibilance in choral music. The RTi12s reproduce this faithfully. But some instruments suffer from this. And more importantly the spectral balance does: the lower midrange and bass sound de-emphasized and uninspired. It's perceptual, not technical, but there it is.

Anyway, so far I have found that the RTi12 midrange drivers want to be hit hard. So I'm hitting them."

I wrote this before I read Polk Audio's statement about pairing the RTi12 with mid-level components. So I think my guess about "less capable equipment upstream" was right.

Granted, my other components _are_ modest. I have heard that my Onkyo CD player is as close to high-end as you can get without spending several times more. And I cannot believe that most listeners would even be able to appreciate the difference. But what is important is that no matter what it feeds the RTi12s (by way of an AudioSource Amp One/A for the mid/treble), they reproduce it: the desirable and undesirable.

Years ago, I was a musician for many years; toward the end, a professional. During that time I focused on sound as a thing in itself, which led to my practice of sound design, synthesis and production, in addition to writing and playing. I know sound. And the RTi12s, when used in a modest system that has been tuned at all (speaker placement, component isolation, etc.) deliver truly beautiful sound.

Highly recommended.

NB: These speakers do not implement true bi-amping. Rather, they allow their internal passive crossover to be driven by two full spectrum amplified signals.

In true bi-amping, an active crossover first divides the full spectrum signal into (typically) two sub-spectra, each of which feeds a separate amplifier, which in turn drives separate speakers. Thus each amp is more efficient because it is burdened only by its part of the full spectrum, not the whole thing. Also, active crossovers are usually more accurate than passive ones.

I guess one advantage of the RTi12's pseudo-bi-amping scheme is to keep the load on each amplifier at 8 ohms. Thus each amp will still do as much work as if they were used alone (because they are amplifying the full spectrum signal), but will not do any more work (because they are driving only one set of speakers, bass or mid/treble, not both sets.) Or something -- I don't really know!

Another more obvious advantage is the ability to set the levels of one or the other amplifier, to change the balance between the output of low and high frequencies.

Similarly, a particular amp can be chosen for use with the highs vs. the lows. I chose my AudioSource amp for the highs because of its reputation for transparency.

Lastly, it permits summing the output of two amplifiers. This is important since (as many have pointed out) the RTi12 is very power hungry. Give it some power and it sounds good. Give it lots of power and it sings with a beautiful voice.

Great sound, great looks
Beautiful cabinets, almost perfect sound. Can't beat them for the money. To my ears, the midrange lacks just a smidgen of clarity compared to speakers that cost more than twice as much. Nothing I've heard in the price range comes close.

Arrived without damage
For detailed reviews regarding the sound quality, Polk website has a lot, not to mention other audio websites. I'd like to comment on the "received damaged" part. I recently purchased two of these from Amazon and both arrived in great condition. The packages are dented/torn up a little bit though.

Very good for the $$$
I have Polk Audio speakers from the good old days, when they were very good if not exceptional. I needed a more prominent center channel, but I did not want to replace the other "parts" of the home theater arrangement. After contacting Polk tech support, they recommended the CSI A6 as complementary to the existing array. It is a good fit and provides clear dialog and the tone and range blend well. (the system is driven by a Denon 5308)

i have had these in just over a week and with the hours i have played them i would say that i am entering the break in stage. right out of the box they sounded a little bright, now they sound a little more laid back and smoother. most reviewers on here pair their speakers with a receiver and a sub. i would suggest that you use neither. in stereo i would suggest you use more superior hardware to get more from these gems,such as a good amp,a preamp and a good cd player,or turntable. now for my review.i listened to the polks well into the late hours of the night each night. as my preamp and amp got warmer the polks fell deeper into the sound stage as the sound stage got wider. i turned the lights off and i was conviced they were full range speakers.from the sometimes thunderous bottom end to realistic midband and the smooth highs.as the hours went on i plunged deeper into my cd collection,and the sound stopped comming from the speakers and were placed in locations in the air between and the outer edges the speakers. when i kept on looking at each speaker it did not appear that sound was comming from them. this has happened to me before on a larger scale with my legacy signatures (130lbs each beasts , a little over five feet tall and almost 4grand more).will downing's pleasures of the night (cd) is my usual reference cd for male voices and his voice came so close to me in that center stage i know i could have slapped him if i had reached out my hand. maxwell's cd embroya is my bottom end test cd and wow the gut they had was tremendous. i continued to listen to more cds from jazz to some classic r&b and classical and they got better and better. i love'm. and by the way did i say they were a very good looking pair of speakers.

Beautiful aesthetics and unbelievable performance at a remarkable price
I also own the previous generation RTi6 bookshelf speakers by Polk and was able to do a direct comparison. The 6s have larger drivers so their slight mid-bass advantage is to be expected, but in all other ways the RTi A1 is an improvement. The sound projects further outside of the cabinets, or rather the cabinets disappear and throw a great, wide sound-field outward. Instruments sound like they should, male voices aren't nasal or chesty, and the highs are soothing rather than sibilant and tinny (as the previous RTis could get under pressure). I have never heard a speaker this nice at a price this low.

Review of RTI A1 with Technics SA-DA10 receiver
I bought these speakers less than a week ago so they have not been broken in yet. I listened to them at the Austin area Frye's as they are configured in the home theater room. I believe the higher end CS center channel was used as well as the larger $299 subwoofer (all Polk). I don't recall the rear channel speakers. That said, these sounded great!

Now that I have them at home with my receiver (5 x 100 watts/channel), I can tell that I need a subwoofer. Also, don't leave them on the floor because they will not sound good.

The cabinet is well constructed cherry veneer. The highs sound natural and not tinny. Right now I use my Ipod primarily as music source fed through reciever (Onkyo cradle).

Overall, very good sounding speaker and great look for my apartment. You don't have to turn them up very much and the sound just carries throughout the apartment at a very good volume.

I'll provide a better commentary in a week when I go back to pick up the cherry PSW-10 sub.

Decent sub; good value.
I have the DSWPro 500, and I like it. It's a decent sub for the money. I've heard better subwoofers, but they are much more expensive. This one does an reasonably good job at a very good price. I'm happy with it.

Excellent and deep sound
One of the best sub woofer, strongest deeper and very friendly with the neighbors, even a good volume don't disturb the peace of the apartment, you can 'feel' the sound not just listen, this mean enjoy the really good sensation of the movie or music that you are listening. The remote control helps a lot for an easy set up, change the volume, etc. Look very nice with the blue light. Amazing product, thanks Polk Audio, you are my Favorites in speakers. Highly recommended if you are exigent with the sound.

Awesome Subwoofer
I had a hard time deciding what subwoofer to purchase since there are so many selections in the market. I use my system for both home theater and music and my components are solid quality but not the high end. I was hesitant to go the step up (price mostly) to this subwoofer but after having this subwoofer for 3 months, this product is awesome and I am glad I spent the money. The low sounds are amazing in both movies and music. I have 2 small children and was afraid of keeping them awake at night - there is no issue since it has various settings (such as night setting) and I can set the subwoofer for different times, music, etc. I highly recommend this subwoofer - it is a solid investment and such great quality.

Decent speakers, but there are better ones
I purchased these speakers for one of my clients, and they are decent speakers. However, for the some money, you can a lot better speakers, such as the Advent AV570 speakers. The Polk speakers include one powered speaker and one passive speaker. They have a decent design, but look more like outdoor speakers than indoor speakers. The sound of these speakers is very crisp, but the bass is lacking - the range is not as wide as they make it out to be.

We originally chose this pair of speakers because they were more attractive than the Advent speakers. However, they ended up being not so pretty - the picture is somewhat misleading. If this matches your home set-up/color scheme, etc., then go for it; otherwise, you can do a lot better with the money.

Good speaker for the money
I was looking for a small speaker to go with the new flat screen. One that would not be so bulky and boxy like the Klipsch bookshelf speakers i was replacing. I did not want to buy a complete system since i already had a Klipsch powered subwoofer and Bose rear channel. These fit the bill perfectly. Great sound from a small package and they work well with my system. ordering and shipping was easy and they arrived in perfect condition.

Great product!
Absolutely great product. Switched the speakers and it sounds much better now. So far nothing but good things to say about polk.

Good but watch out for the colours!
Good speakers.
They took quite some bedding-in, more so than other speakers.

I won't comment in detail on their sound quality because I have not been able to give them a fair crack of the whip: they're satellites in a second room and I'm powering them through 30 feet of 14AWG. It's not fair assess them under such extreme conditions.

I warn to be careful of the colour, because Amazon showed me a silver speaker but described it as black. I went on the photo, not on the decriptions, and received black ones. The retialer (not amazon) was great, though, and swapped them at no charge.

Great sound, good price
Awesome speaker, especially when there's a subwoofer helping out on the bass. The highs are crisp, the mids rich; they look amazing mounted.

We did quite a bit of research before deciding on this set. We have them in a 25' x 25' room paired with their smaller cousins as rears and the matching center (the subwoofer's an older Infiniti). They fill the space quite nicely. We've cranked them with movies and all sorts of music and have yet to hear distortion. (Yes, I know that has to do with the receiver as well.)

And they are now available for $75 less than when we bought them a year ago, so go ahead and indulge the audiophile in you!

Sounds good aestheticaly lacking
The build quality is very good. The sound quality is good, although a little light in the bass department as expected. I bought them as a cheaper alternative to the RM30. I wall mounted 3 of them next to my plasma tv as fronts and center. The titanium color is three shades of gray-metalic. I believe that the darker pewter color choice would have been a better match for my plasma.

Great sound for the price and size
I am not an audio expert, but I was amazed at how clear the sound is out of these speakers. They carry a great punch for there size. I would definitely recommend these to anyone looking for a small, powerful, well made speaker.

Serves its purpose
I am type of person who enjoys sound quality but not inclined to spend more for high end audio components. This subwoofer provides the deep bass required for my 5 speaker system. The sound provided when watching movies is similar to the movie theatre experience.
My computer audio library is linked to the entertainment sound system and I am less than enthused by the bass for this purpose. I enjoy rock music and feel as if the bass is more inclined to serve hip hop music. The tight clear sound from bass guitar is lost in deep reverberating bass.

This sub kicks serious BOOM. It's small size BOOM is BOOM BA BOOM BABOOM and it produces a BOOMing incredible amount of TIGHT, ACCURATE, CHEST POUNDING BASS.

Little Giant
Small size and smaller cost..but what a performer. Our bedroom, game room, and my wife's craft room jump to the beat of this little black box. Bought as a music sub, I can vouch from my most recent viewing of Independence Day on cable in our game room...it can kick _ _ _ _ too. Don't be afraid of the price or the size for a small to mid small room and use corner placement and you will be happy! Lots of knobs that work and do the right thing too. I was very suprised to find it can boogey!! I have three of them in different environments and they all are up to the task.

Excellent Speakers

Excellent Center speaker for the price..
I used to have the Bose speakers which I used as the center channel also. I was never happy with the sound quality. Recently I upgraded my HT system and decided to change my speakers. This center speaker has a great crisp sound, and definetly enhances the Surround sound.. Highly recommend it.

In 1989 I was in the position to purchase an upper end stereo system. Well what I thought was an upper end anyway. Alma Stereo and Hi-Fi in Farmington Hills MI carried better electronic products than the locations that also had washers, driers and stoves. This is where I became hooked on Polk Audio. After standing in front of what seemed like a bazillion speakers (some I could afford and others not) I narrowed it down to the Polk monitor series JR5. Then of course came the rest of the package; tuner amp, turntable, cassette recorder/player (no CDs yet).
I packed it all up and was in hog heaven with sound for years. Then it happened the, speakers blew, or so I thought. It turned out to be the amps main channels not the JR5s. This started the rebuilding of my stereo system. I went on a buying frenzy the included Polk Li7s, Yamaha RX-N600 & the Polk Audio CSi3. Since the Jr5s were just fine I am once again in hog heaven. The CSi3 was not a disappointment, delivering wonderful sound in any genre. That it's made in USA is a plus. Music or block buster movies it handles them both with no problem. If you can find the deal as I did from J&R Music and Computer World you will be very happy.

I got this to match my Monitor series speakers. AVS forum users warned me that this was not "timbre matched" and that it might appear to be brighter than the Monitor fronts. However the Polk website says that the Csi3 is timber matched to go with ANY Polk speaker.. So I took a chance and got it from JandR.

The difference from the stock Onkyo is HUGE. On a good source, you will feel the performer in your room if you close your eyes. Very nice finish, majestic looking but large and heavy. Can take a 12AWG wire easily.
Well recommended if you can find them under 200.

Excellent sorround speaker!

Small but Good
I listened to these speakers at a store before buying them online. They don't quite have the full sound of a good floor standing speaker, but are very close in quality to my Infinity SM85s, which are excellent. Put a subwoofer with these and they are outstanding. If I had to, I could get by w/ out the woofer. I listened to quite a few bookshelf speakers and this was the best.

Shake the wall sub
This sub has some serious output. I'm only using about 30% of the power and thats enough to make the walls tremble as if you're in an earthquake. I seriously recommend this sub to anyone that loves feeling as if they're in the movie they're watching.

does the job well
I purchased this to fill in the low end of a Polk Surroundbar-50. The room is 20'x40'x11' ceiling and the 505 has no trouble generating the pressure for clear, loud base. Better yet, it was discounted $200 when I purchased the SB50. Furniture-wise it's not the most attractive sub out there but sound-wise I'm completely satisfied.

Great sounding speakers, very clear and the sub packs a very nice punch. Speakers are very good quality and you will notice as soon as you pick one up by the weight. I did a lot of research before I decided on a set of new speakers and I am very happy with this set. I bought a refurbished set from their factory online store (ebay) for $320.00 - not bad at all.

Great speakers for a decent price!
We recently finished our basement, and moved our "real" home theater setup down there. We still wanted something in our living room, however, so I purchased these speakers to go with an Onkyo receiver. They are small enough to make my wife happy (even hanging on the walls around the room), and have great sound for their price and size. The subwoofer is oddly shaped and *big*, but kicks out a good amount of bass if you crank it up. I prefer my music balanced, so usually keep it fairly low.

I used the included wallmounts, which had plenty of flexibility for my scenario. I put the anchor in to hang the speaker from, then marked where the "cable hole" is on the bracket, drilled down into the drywall at an angle, and ran the cable into the wall from there. Worked out quite well - cable's not visible at all.

great sounding speakers
Last holiday season, I wanted to gift myself a good home theater system. Though I started from some home-theater-in-a-box system, I quickly decided I get much better quality by buying a receiver and speakers. Once I made that decision, and set my budget $1000, I started searching again. After reading many reviews at different website, I first made up my mind on receiver Onkyo TX-SR605 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver (Black) (I wrote a lengthy review for it, but cant see it anymore at that page - anyway, that is another excellent future-proof buy). Once that was done, I started searching for speakers for about $600. Though an AV enthusiast friend of mine suggested Polk speakers, I first bought a Boston Acoustics Horizon Series MCS100 System Midnight Speakers, again based on internet reviews. That fit the budget well, but after installing it, I found that the sound wasnt great. The bass was boomy, and the surrounds/center wasnt any better either (mine is a 35x15 recroom). So I returned it, and bought this RM6880. I am so glad I did. The bass is just right for my recroom (at half-way setting of the powered subwoofer), and the surrounds and center sound so great. The lows, mids and the highs sound so real to me. I am not sure if I hear every single frequency between 20-20KHz, and I dont care. But trust me these speakers sound so good(as I said I am no audiophile, but I do know when something sounds good).

About the speakers, there are 4 identical satellite speakers, a center and a 10" powered subwoofer. The speakers and subwoofer are 130W peak (65 normal). I can now fill my 35x15 room with a volume setting of 50-60 and subwoofer setting of 50%. At volume level 90 the room literally shakes, so I havent taken it above that.

The only negative about the package was it didnt come with speaker wires (the MCS100 did). If you dont have your room already wired, get some cheap 16-guage wire - I bought (100' Spooled Speaker Wire) and I could feel a huge change in sound quality (compared to some 18 gauge I bought from Walmart).

Also, the subwoofer does *not* have a regular subwoofer jack. This was not a problem for me, as I have the subwoofer connected to the front speaker port of my receiver (following the tips on Polk's website - which, btw, is a must read, regardless of which speakers you buy).

Guess there is no AV setup that satisfies all. For someone who wants to hear realistic sounds (and effects), but who doesnt worry all that much a about a frequency that may or may not be dropped, this setup is great. I wont think of an AV setup for another 10 years for sure :)

Great quality!
After receiving these speakers in only 3 days I finally got them out of the box. Hesitant at first to purchase them without actually seeing them in person, I did so anyways. I am EXTREMELY satisfied with the actual quality and workmanship of these RTi A7 speakers. Solid, clean, and classy all in one setup. I owned 15" infinity floor standing speakers and I must say these are top notch in quality and for the money, are really hard to pass up. Unfortunately I have not received my Onkyo 605 series receiver yet, so I don't know how they sound just yet. I will do a more detailed review once it arrives.

OUTSTANDING!!!
After listening to all what Polk has to offer - from the M20 through M70 - you can't beat the M70. It offers all a little of bass, treble and the highs! I started with the M50 with CS1 and the PSW10. Not bad but not enough treble and steady bass. The M70 is an outstanding speaker for the money - inexpensive with an tremendous sound. My set-up M70 / CS2 / PSW10 / with an ONKYO HTR-500. You will be surprise what a 50watt PSW10 puts out. Perfect for all movies and music dvds. And you can't beat FREE 2-day to HAWAII! Thank you!

Monitor stands out
These speakers standout. You need a good set of electronics to back it up. Clarity is excellent. The setup still requires a nice subwoofer, as the speakers woofer is not powerful enough. Onkyo 7xx/8xx allows bi-amp using the rear back connectors, it improves the woofer performance compared to default setup. Iam in a loose-loose situation with onkyo & polk audio. I either loose 7.1 or bass performance. I cant blame polk for that. Iam going to switch to 7.1 and use a sub.

HSU-VTF Sub is more than capable of handling any low frequency. Onkyo double basss is a cool idea, now both my sub and speakers can work in tandem.

Outstanding Speaker
These speaker delivery great surround sound. I used them for all four corners of my 5.1 surround. Installation was very easy, but just make sure that before you cut out the drywall that you make sure that you aren't over any part of a stud. I first cut a small pilot hole the size of my hand, then positioned the template to make sure the template wasn't covering a stud. ALSO, make sure you have about 1/2 inch clearance between the hole and a stud so that the mounting brackets can turn and have something to grab on to.

The instructions say to use a paperclip to pull off the screen from the speaker. Rather that poking a hole in the cloth under the grill and risk poking the speaker, I just carefully used my utility knife and gentlely pryed off the grill.

Love this
I absolutely love it. I paired this with with Polk audio: CS2 center, 60 towers, RC85i wall souround, and RC80i in ceiling for back surround. With a large living room and cathedral ceilings, and an ONKYO SR805 to push them, these speakers provide an excellent home theater/music experience.
CONS: Make sure you get a subwoofer seperately (not really a con, more of a requirement)

Running with my Denon AVR888, polk CSI 3 center and PSW303 sub. Sounds great. Highs and mids are clear and crisp. Adjustable tweeter helps to aim sound towards user if seating is not center of soundstage as in my case.

Great product for the price
Even after reading the product info on these speakers, when I took them out of the box I was surprised at the size and weight of the center and surround speakers... none of those little 3" by 3" lightweight surround speakers like you see a lot of places. I have these hooked up to a Yamaha AV receiver and they sound great! The subwoofer adds a smooth bass sound that fills the room without being overpowering. I highly recommend this speaker set to anyone that wants a reasonably priced product that sounds great!

Great Speaker System for the money
This speaker system packs quite a punch for the money. I was impressed with the clarity of the sound. I'm using this 5.1 system together with a pair of floorstanding Polk Speakers for a 7.1 system. It sounds absolutely amazing.

Polk PSW111 Subwoofer
The Polk PSW111 is a good subwoofer if you are looking for one that is small and can be hidden in the corner of a room. However, don't expect it to produce the "bone rattling" vibrations of the larger options.

light weight champion
The fact of living in a small apartment has forced me to search for small size subwoofer.

This sub is a way lighter compared to Polk 303 sub even though they both are equipped with the same size drive (8 inch).

Before purchase this new sub, I tried Polk 303 which produces annoying rattling noise that made me return the unit back to fry's.

Since I had the bad experience with Polk sub, I was a little bit hesitant to try another sub from Polk.

But, since PSW111 is a new breed in the sub crowd, I decided to try.

Foutunately, the new Polk sub has not let me down like the 303 did.

There is neither rattling noise nor boom.

The bass is tight & precise for music play.

It is the lightest sub I have ever lifted.

I haven't used this sub with any surround sound movies since I have only two bookshelf speakers (JBL EX1control).

This sub produces adequate bass for my Apt living room without bothering the next door.

I am really glad to decide to try this sub.

Nice outdoor speaker
I have the Polk Atrium 55's on my deck and tied into my whole house system. They are exactly what I was looking for to get the sound outside. The sound quality is very good and with the subwoofer inside the house kicking and the windows open I feel like I'm sitting in my living room. Well made, easy to install, and good sound quality.

beautiful speakers
i'm not an audiophile. and i couldn't tell the difference among speakers once they reach certain level. this is a beautiful pair of speakers that works for me. sound is excellent. proportion is gorgeous.

not bad for a retail speaker...
...I disagree with the previous reviewer's advice to get the RTi10 instead because the RTi10 and RTi12 both require a much stronger amp to drive to their fullest potential, for not that much more benefit in terms of overall sound quality.

Actually the best course of action would be to get the RTi6 bookshelf speakers and put your savings into a quality powered subwoofer which will not only go lower and louder in terms of bass, but take a lot of pressure off your amp/receiver when crossed over, allowing the speakers' mids and highs to really shine. This is especially true if home theater use is your primary concern.

Generally your best price to performance value will come from Internet-direct manufacturers, particularly in the subwoofer department: a Hsu or SVS sub will effortlessly decimate any comparably priced store-bought sub from Polk, Infinity, Klipsch, Sony, Yamaha, etc. Also worth looking at Internet-direct speakers from Ascend, AV123 dot com, as well as Hsu and SVS.

Google is your friend: do your homework, read professional and user reviews, and you'll be far better off for it!

not bad at all
If you can get this on sale cheap then go for it because they are awesome, but in all honesty if you can afford to spend a little more then I highly recommend the Rti10's instead. You will be getting more for the money with the 10's than these.
Although I did own these at once and enjoyed them big time. They sound great but are a little bulky considering theres no woofers. I had to dock one star because of that fact, such a tall tower speaker and no woofers, only a pair of mids and a tweeter. Seemed kinda useless to have such a large cabinet for so little, like I said before you will be getting more for youre money if you go with the Rti10's.

Very impressed
I recently decided to switch out an existing center channel for a polk because my front speakers are monitor 50s and I wanted the fronts and center to timbre match in order to get the best sound. I was trying to decide between this center and the cs1. Since I will probably upgrade my fronts to the monitor 70s one day I went with the cs2. First off, it is HUGE. As far a footprints go guys this one has a shoe the size of bigfoot. I bought an omnimount center channel shelf and used the shelf to stick it on top of my hdtv. It actually looks o.k. with the shelf but it is rather large guys so be prepared. The second thing I noticed is the sound quality. My previous center speaker was a boston acoustics vrc. Usually I would crank up my receiver to about level 70 (onkyo sr605) and I noticed that anything above that level would put out a greater volume from the center but the sound quality would not be the same as at 70 or below. It was almost like a person yelling at one volume vs yelling at an even louder volume. After switching out the vrc with the cs2 I noticed an immediate difference. Now I can crank my receiver up to almost 80 and the sound is louder but the quality of the sound is more clear and refined. This center is definitely made for higher end receivers and is more than prepared for those times when you want to crank up your home theater and wake the neighbors. I have been using the die hard trilogy in blu-ray as my home theater testing material and after playing the tunnel scene and the apartment shoot-out from live free or die hard I could tell an immediate difference. The cs2 does cost more than the cs1 and I can't really speak for the cs1 since I haven't heard it but if you are willing to fork over the extra dough this speaker most definitely is worth it. My only regret is that I bought the cherry finish model in order to save money. My wife picked out a dark cherry wood color scheme for all of the furniture in our living room and I took a chance on the cherry finish being close enough to match. Turns out the black finish would have been better. Anyway you can't go wrong with this speaker whether cherry or black. Just be ready for its size.

cs2 polk review
excellent sound reproduction in mid range and high end sounds.acoustics in a room with a high amount of wood like mine makes for an enjoyable surround sound experience.

Great clear center channel
The size is a little bulky but the sound is great. Dialogue sounds like they are in the room with you. A lot more clearer than the cs1 model, worth the extra money.

Great sound for the size/price.
We just completed a kitchen renovation, which included ceiling speakers tied into the home theater system.
The main system has Klipsh Ref Series 5's, which do a tremendous job no matter what type of music you push to them. The Polks in the kitchen sound rich, crisp, and full. For the money, these are just great speakers, period.

Perfect ceiling speakers at a bargain price.
No one had these speakers cheaper than Amazon and we needed ceiling speakers for 3 bedrooms wired for audio from a central source.

We bought 3 pair and couldn't be more pleased. Had to paint the paint-ready grills and speaker edges from their "dark" white color to the ceiling white, but that was also real easy as the speakers come w/ templates that perfectly cover the actual parts you don't want to paint.

They sound great, but are a little "underdriven" by our relatively weak amplifier/receiver. That's good news for folks w/ stronger receivers! I also do not find a problem w/ absence of bass as some reviews have noted. Sure bass is lacking...they aren't subwoofers! We have no problems hearing the bass from these speakers.

Along w/ the impedence matching volume controls in each bedroom, the whole setup is superb. FYI...we got our volume controls from MCM Electronics...fantastic price ($29.95 each) white slider controls w/ impedence matching...there aren't any this good and this cheap anywhere on Amazon. Check MCM for a HUGE selection of volume controls!

Excellent little speakers
Great for space saving and rounding out the surrounds on your 5.1 or 7.1 sound system. I purchased four of these speakers.

I was taken aback about how small these speakers were when I took them out of the box. I've seen computer speakers that look bigger. They are only about 6 1/2 inches tall and 4 inches wide.

Thankfully, they are heavy, so it gave me hope that they were powerhouses in a small package. I was right. I replaced my old (and bigger) RCA surrounds with these and added them to a setup including 2 Polk 50 Monitor mains, a Polk CS1 center, all hooked up to an Onkyo TX-SR606.

The RM6751s sound great and much clearer and stronger than the cheap RCAs. They look kind of ridiculous if you were to put them next to my 3-foot Monitor 50 tower speakers, but they do the job. They are aesthetically pleasing and can go practically unnoticed on a bookshelf.

These are excellent speakers although I wish I had bought the 55s due to large back yard.

Great and dependable speakers.
The number one plus for me; these speakers have been sitting on my deck, rain, shine, snow for 3 years and still working great.

-Great sound
-Decent looks. Simple style so it is easy to match with many landscape.
-Reasonable price. Outdoor speakers are generally expensive
-Easy installation
-Yoke is adjustable to direct the speakers at some angles

Tip: I think it will be a good idea to weatherproof the contacts of the speaker wires to the speaker connections with something like a silicon sealant. The connections got a little corroded due to the elements and I have to cut the tip of the wires to expose the new copper and reconnect.

Nice Speaker
Good little speaker and great if space is tight. May not be right for a large room but wooks great for most locations.

Inexpensive Center Channel Speaker
The Polk RM6752 Center Channel Speaker is a good, inexpensive alternative to higher priced Polk units. I combined this unit with Polk bookshelf speakers that recommended a much more expensive center channel unit. In a room of modest size (12 x 15) it provides more than adequate sound with a 100 watt per channel receiver. The addition of the center channel increases the clarity of speech on tv and dvd's significantly. It also allows the left and right speakers to expand the sound stage to provide more three dimensional sound.

The unit is well built and small enough to fit almost anywhere. It is not large enough to rest the TV on it, however.

If you watch movies, this speaker is NOT for you!
This speaker came with a 5.1 speaker system I bought for $200. I would definitely recommend buying this system only for the 5 other speakers are very decent for the money. The center channel was the bad apple though. It blew only 3 months of viewing pleasure. I am watching movies mostly with the volume turned up but not ridiculously. This speaker is a donkey! I recommend the Polk Audio CS1 for $99.

Great speakers for finished basement
I recently installed a few sets of these Polk speakers into our basement. One set was used in a drywalled-ceiling (in a gym) and another set was used with a drop ceiling (Armstrong 24"x24" Brighton Ceiling Panels, sold at Lowes) in the main room of our basement. The speakers were pretty easy to install in both settings and work well. I have them hooked up to a stereo for music only...no surround sound off of them.

For the drop ceiling, I would recommend these steps for a smooth install:
1) Use the included template to draw the circle on the back (gray) side of the ceiling tile.
2) I used a Dremel cutting tool to cut out the circle. Don't cut on the line, cut on the outside of the line. If you cut on the line exactly, the circle will be a shade too small and won't hold the speaker properly.
3) Once the circle is cut, put the speaker in the hole and use a screwdriver to secure it in place.
4) If you ran more than enough speaker wire, hook it up to the speaker and then put your ceiling tile back into the ceiling grid. All done!

The ceiling tiles do a great job of holding the speaker in place, with no signs of the speaker being too heavy. I didn't see the need to go purchase a special bracket that some of the other reviewers have recommended.

One more tip: at first, I didn't quite follow how the clips on the speaker were supposed to secure it to the ceiling. I kept turning the screws and didn't think I was making any progress. I'd recommend doing a practice run on just one of the clips. Don't put it in the ceiling, but use the screwdriver, and see what moves when you turn the screw. It will help you visualize how the clips work. Basically, there's a lot of turning involved to secure it to the ceiling...so don't give up!

Great speakers
We needed 3 pairs of speakers for our home. I wasn't sure whether they would work for the entire house so I bought one pair to test in the dining room. I tested them before installing and in most cases, the bass was still great. Once installed, the sound was perfect. For the money, you can't go wrong. Great sound quality with all types of music and works great with my 7 year old Sony 5.1 100w/channel receiver. Installation was pretty simple in our drywall ceiling.
I am going to order 2 more sets to install in the other rooms.

Solid sound, great value for surrounds / whole house audio
I am using 4 of these speakers in my theater as surround and rear speakers. I am a perectionist when it comes to sound in my theater, but the fact is that the fidelity requirements for surround / rear speakers are pretty minimal. These speakers are plenty large for the task (in all but the largest rooms) and I'd give them a 7/10 for sound quality. We spray painted the grills on ours to match the ceiling color and they blend in perfectly. I have also used these speakers in whole house audio applications with good results. Very good value overall.

a bit large but very good.
i intended to use these speakers for my rears but they are a bit large. if i hadn't also ordered monitor 50's i would have used these as fronts. but they do a good job as rears for my 5.1 system now. very powerful and a decent amount of bass as well. they also look very classy.

I have the Polk Monitor 60s in the front and the 40s in the rear. With this arrangement I hear subtle sounds/notes in music/details I never heard before for the same music I have listened to for years. The speakers have great clarity and sound reproduction and do not sound muddy or have distortion. The bass might be a little low. However I increased the bass setting on the reciever and do not miss much. Maybe in a year or two I will add a subwoofer and the CS2 center speaker. Basically I gained more clarity and accuracy of sound. I might have tried the Monitor 70s for the front if I had to do it all over again and noticed the price I could ahve gotten them for from AMAZON.

Great bookshelf speakers

I used to have these as my 7.1 home theater rear speakers and decided to take them out and hook them up to my separate stereo setup with a Consonance tube amp until I bought a pair of audiophile grade bookshelf speakers for it. I was surprised at the quality of the sound put out by these budget speakers. The bass goes surprisingly low and these are very easily driven by my 20 watts/ch amp. I love these speakers. They don't do much in the way of soundstaging but they are an awesome value for the price.

This is an excellent pair of speakers. I am very pleased with their quality having used them for about two months. I have them hooked up to a Kenwood KR-9600 and they work wonderfully. Excellent highs and lows along with excellent mids. With the KR-9600 I can get these speakers to have a wider frequency range than stated. The speakers work well by themselves and I would not bother to get a sub. I have my computer hooked up to the KR-9600 and I play my cds this way. I can raise the bass even more by doing this. The only downside is the price; however, they are well worth the price. The grills are alright but I took mine off because they look cooler. All in all this is a very good pair of speakers and with the proper equipment one can get them to excede their standard specifications.

Excellent
This is my first subwoofer for the home and I am thoroughly impressed with the bass response and accuracy. For the first three days I had it placed in the corner facing the same directions as my Polk R50 Towers (which match well). The corner loading produced muddy boom which wasn't really aggravating just not my kind of thing.

I enjoy tight bass more than boom, so I moved it between my right speaker and TV, amazing still! The down firing port means no evident port noise. I have experienced none and that is from about a month of loud drum and bass, hip hop and walking bass lines found in Jazz music. You are going to love the low rumble and punch found in movie explosions and heavy vehicles running in the background!

I am running it speaker level input utilizing the crossover at about 75hz. I have great control of the output with the level knob set at less than half and phase set to 180 degrees. I would buy a second if I didn't live in a duplex!

The finish is Cherry veneer but I think that is to be expected for a sub at this price point?

Oh yeah and of course I received it within 2 days with Amazon Prime two day shipping. Normally there is a shipping charge!

Polk AM 60 2-way Floorstanding Speakers
I am very impressed with the sound and look of these speakers. They fit perfectly in the corner of the room and match well any black LCD TV.

Good speaker for the price
I bought two speakers for Onkyo-TX 805 A/V system.

First, it's kinda wide and big. The sound is very crisp and clear.

But without a subwoofer, Bass sound is a little bit weak.
I don't know when can I find a true speaker that doesn't need a subwoofer.

If I turn off the subwoofer, I can feel the lackness of Bass sound.

But above all, I like the design and the quality of the speaker.

Very Good at Very Good Price
Purchased sony SSF-6000 speakers because I like value and they had good ratings and were inexpensive. I was not satisfied and returned them for the upgrade to Polk. These Polks sound much better and I am satisfied with the very good sound and now feel that I have the "value" speaker I was looking for. If you truly want that "amazing quality" sound, however, you will have to spend much, much more, but I am not that picky and very happy with the Polks. I'm giving them 5 stars to show they are better than the Sony's which have over a 4 star rating.

Excellent Speakers
I purchased these speakers for both music and to use as temporary front speakers for my dvd movies. These speaker boxes are quality built and very solid. The highs are excellent and allowed me to hear highs I never heard before in the movies. For the lows, the speakers are a bit boomy from the rear ports. After reading a review of another user with the suggestion of stuffing the port with a sock, I filled mine with foam. This made the bass nice and tight and also improved the mids as well. The bass that comes from these little speakers is pretty amazing and was much more than I expected; however, don't expect earth-shattering bass from bookshelf speakers of any kind. If you purchase these speakers, you won't be disappointed.

Decent sound, good quality
I got these as a compromise with the wife who thought the Monitor 40's were too large. I'm not what you would consider an audiophile but the sound seems pretty good. I didn't like the keyhole mounting option so I ordered a pair of Omnimount 20 Wall mounts but had to rig the mounting plate with washers because of where the flange for the connectors was and didn't want to drill new holes. It would have been nice if Polk had provided threaded inserts for mounting. However, the rigged up speaker mounts seem to be holding. Excellent build quality and clear highs.

For the past 5 years I had built a system composed of polk speakers for the front and center channels, but never got around to puchasing the rears. I instead used a pair of infinities i had received from a relative at no cost. Those rears both blew and after several months of annoying flutter sounds, I made the decision to get some new rears, preferbly polk. I wanted a speaker that sounded great, yet didnt blow a hole in my pocket, leaving me with regret. So i did what i loved to do; research. When it comes to home theater equipment, I find alot of joy in the research as well as shopping for the best price. If your a fan of electronics, im sure many of you can relate. So, I came across several polk models worthy of the buy, one of them seemed to expensive, the other too cheap and small. The M30 was perfect size for the price. I took a stab at it without even listening to it, because I trust polk audio. Once I installed them and listed, I was blown away. They needed a little fine tuning, but thats it. I could hear every detail in 5.1 surround without being over powering. They sounded much better than my old infinitys. Bottom line, buy these, they are a perfect addition to your home theater.

Great bookshelves
I have had the Monitor 30's for almost a year now and am incredibly impressed. Great bang for the buck (paid $140 on sale at CC). I am using these as fronts in my 7.1 surround set up, with Polk M10's as the surrounds and a Pioneer VSX-1018 avr and Sony 40S2010 LCD. I am still using a crappy jvc htib 60watt powered sub, but am planning on treating myself to a Avs123 X-sub for Christmas. :) Anyway, I am here to talk about the Polk M30. My set up is for a 15'x17'den. That's a fairly small room and I have a wife that agitated with overpowering sound (yeah, my love for audio equipment does not always over well). Although I would have loved to go for a floorstanding speaker, I agreed to stick to bookshelf size to keep my wife happy. The M30 certainly fit the bill. They have a clean, accurate sound with excellent highs and mids. The sound is linear and smooth, with a warm tone. If you like a brighter sounding speaker, these probably aren't for you and you might be better off with the Infinity Beta series. As far as bass goes, on my radio shack SLP, they drop as low as 50hz, which is pretty decent compared to most of the bookshelves I have heard and better than the specs indicate. Still, these speakers, by themselves don't produce enough bass depth for stand alone duty. You will need a decent sub that can make up for what the M30's lack and, given the m30 range, setting the crossover on the amp at 80 is the way to go with these babies.

These speakers are designed for a tonal match with all other speakers in the monitor line and the M10's are perfect for satellite duty. I would recommend spending a little extra for the Polk CS1 center over the CSM (returned it). As for a sub to match, CNET likes the match between the Polk PWS10 with the Monitor 30s (used in their test). I auditioned the PSW10 and felt it was lacking umph. I preferred the sound of the Velodyne VX-10 or Dayton 120 (although I am going to take the advice my audiofile friends and go for the Avs123 sub-x for $200).

The bottomline, the Monitor 30 is a high quality bookshelf speaker for a fair price. If you're a hardcore audiofile looking for paradigm and definitive bookshelves, the M30 isn't going to work for you. However, if you're looking for a nice sounding speaker but don't want to spend $800, these are ideal. Certainly, they blow away anything from sony, pioneer, yamaha and Bose etc

Unbelievable!
I picked up a pair of these to run off of my computer. I'm listening an mp3 on em right now, hooked up to a junk amp meant to power a set of logitec surround speakers and all I can say is wow! Given higher quality power and a better source (dvd audio or CD) it could only get better from here.

I've owned piles of really expensive stereo equipment home/auto and have been through about 4 different surround systems for my computer. I can tell you that you can junk the 5.1 or 7.1 computer surround systems. None sound even 1/2 as good a pair of these Polks.

One thing you also dont really have to worry about is price. Polk pretty much price fixes everything so the cost here on Amazon is going to be as good as anywhere you look. Free shipping wouldnt hurt either! For a bit over 3 bills you cannot go wrong on a pair.

These speakers exceeded my expectations
Wow - These speakers far exceeded my expectations and actually put out decent sound. Because they sit on the ground you can turn them up louder without having to worry about irritating the neighbors.

To install I simply drilled a 3/8" hole through the living room wall and ran speaker wire to the outside patio through a plastic coaxial guide. I then crimped the speaker wire from the house to the speaker wire of the rock speakers.

I couldn't be happier. Now I can listen to my turntable while outside on the patio :-)

Best Deal for 5 speakers set up
I heard these speakers at a local retail store, and had very crystal clear highs which really impressed me out of these speakers. i saw the tag on them and were $600, way to much to upgrade my speakers that came with my HTIB. so i checked amazon and saw them at an incrediable deal for $197! i been wanting these things for my room, which bout 14' x 14' not bad size. and like i expected these things punch real loud mids and highs at crystal clear sounds, my receiver is kinda lacking their potential(yamaha htr-5935), compared to the better onkyo avr powering these things at the store. but will soon upgrade my reciever to feed em better watts and sound. overall you will be amazingly surprised how well these perform. and highly recomend them for a room where u dont have alot of space for towers and bulky bookshelf speakers. these things are really solid and little bit bigger and heavier then they appear, really well built. just check out polkaudio.com to get full specs on these and the rm20's (which is the center that comes with this package). if you already have a sub, like i did,(Velodyne vrp1000, not bad sub for my size room) these speakers a definate MUST! at its price, thanks

Great little system
The clarity and warmth of these speakers really impress me every time I turn on my system. Paired with my Onkyo surround receiver, I am very happy with the purchase. The speakers are heavy for their size and feel very solid. It's tough to tell from the picture, but the ports are on the top angled surface, and the speaker grill has a port diffuser to disperse the sound. I bought them when they were on sale for $199; if they were regular price I would probably have had a harder time pulling the trigger. The wall mounting plates are average, a keyhole hanger design. It would be nice if they were designed to anchor to speaker stands; I had to use double sided adhesive on the bottom of the speaker to secure mine.

Great sound, value and looks!
I got these to go along with a flat panel, PS3 and dayton 10" sub so I could enjoy blueray movies, NASCAR, music and the occasional game. After using them for a few weeks I may never leave the house for entertainment again.

They are small and come with some mounting plates for the wall. I used these for the front three but opted to use omni mounts for the back because of the shape of my room.

I have no regrets, would buy this again and only wish they sold a 7 speaker set because adding two individual speakers cost more than half the price of all five.

Great center speaker
I bought this to join with my Polk Monitor 50s and it works great. Dialogue sounds much clearer. I still have to turn up the center speaker's volume because a lot of movie soundtracks STILL like to drown out their dialogue with sound effects and make the dialogue volume low and the sound effects blast. It looks great and is somewhat huge compared to my flat RCA speaker.

The only con is that the speaker rises slightly above the bottom of my LCD TV screen, so I have to put a cushion under me or find some way to place it lower (they are both on one table right now).

I bought this center speaker to complement my Polk R50s and R150s.

Polk Audio CS1 with BOSE supporting cast
I was using a Bose double cube for my center channel. It was weak, and insufficient. I decided to go with the PA CS1, wow what a difference. Great sound at a lower volume. Vocals are clear and defined. I tested the unit listening to that "movie previews guy" voice. EXACTLY like it is in the theater. AMAZING. Even regular TV voices/narration sound waaay better, (I watch alot of NGEO, TruTV, Discovery etc.) programs that have lots of narration.
One note, it's big. But if your TV is 50in or larger, it looks decent. I think if it was with a smaller TV 42 in or smaller it would look overwhelming. If you have a large rear projection TV >60in, like I do, it looks great sitting on top of it, like a "beefed" up version of your TV. I like this look personally. Maybe it's a guy thing. I wouldn't get this if you don't like big speakers, and want to be discrete about it. But I'm personally convinced you will NOT get the same sound out of a BOSE center channel than you would with this. BOSE double cubes are great for surround, but that center channel was weak.

Clean, clear, and good price
This is my first foray (actually it was a gift) into Polk Audio merchandise. I am pleased with the crisp, clear, and detailed high frequency sound it emits. It has considerable resolution and articulation that helps deliever lifelike representations of vocals and instruments. There is virtually no distortion, and it sits above my T.V., which sometimes speakers and T.V.s will play interference with each other, but not this monitor. I have it hooked up to my Sony STR-DE697 Receiver, and it has been able with great clarity to handle high volumes. This is a great buy, even if you have a modest receiver

Really Good stuff Man!
This speaker replaced cheap radio shack center channel,that never really gave decent sound. Especially dialog on movie soundtracks... My wife would always say"What did he just say?" or "I can't hear them " etc. Haven't had that problem anymore. Made the biggest sound differece in speaker setup because so much of dolby 5.1 is though the center speaker. This got a good review in CNET rated 7 of 10. it is really well built and quite large. 16x7x9in It fit in my setup but might be too large for some tastes.. But the sound is VERY clear and accurate, Great for sports movies and music too, its a good choice without going broke..

Worth every dollar
I purchaced this speaker along with four Polk Monitor 30 satalites, a Pioneer VSX-1017TXV-K receiver, and a Velodyne VX-10 sub about two months ago. I did tons of research and read hundreds of reviews for about a month before I pulled the trigger. The center channel sound is a perfect match (to no surprise) with the other Polk Monitor speakers. The sound is warm and crisp, but not too bright. Voices sound natural and well defined. When watching a movie, it really feels like i'm in a theater. My budget was 900 dollars and I can't believe what I was able to get. Through my research, I don't think you can do much(if any) better for 900 dollars.

Great bass, nice appearance
I was replacing crummy, but reliable large old RCA speakers. These L/R Polk speakers fit in nicely around my Samsung LCD. I can't have too loud sounds because I'm in an apartment. I actually had to turn the bass down on the Onkyo receiver because of these speakers! They fill the room better and sound richer.

I got a Polk CS1 center speaker with these and they all sound great! Good for a budget, but not budget-sounding.

Not bad at these prices...
The Polk website lists these babies at a whopping four hundred sixty bucks MSRP...now if you're paying anywhere near that, I'd say you're nuts because there's far better speakers available at that pricepoint. Luckily the street prices on the Polk Monitor line keep dropping, perhaps due to fierce competition from both high-quality Internet-direct manufacturers like av123, Ascend, SVS, Hsu, etc. and as more speakers are now produced in cut-rate China, such as the Usher Audio S-520. At the one hundred thirty bucks shipped each price that Amazon currently has them at, however, this is an excellent value---mainly because these being floorstanding rather than bookshelf speakers, you don't have to spend any money on speaker stands, which would start at around eighty to a hundred bucks and negate any price advantage of bookshelf speakers.

The Monitor 50 is basically identical to the Monitor 40 in terms of not only having the same two 5.25" mid-woofers and 1" silk tweeter, but surprisingly the much larger cabinet of the 50 does not seem to give you any extra bass extension: both the 40 and the 50 are listed by Polk as going down to 57Hz, which means that having a powered subwoofer is highly recommended, especially if you are using these speakers for home theater (DVDs)---and particularly if you watch a lot of big-budget action flicks where the subwoofer really makes or breaks your system, particularly in a large open space.

For critical music listening, the Polk Monitor is decent, but hardly anything to write home about. That's "critical music listening"---wherein one sits in front of the speakers and listens intently to the nuances, details, balance and tonality of the musical output, in contrast to casual listening where you're perhaps preparing a meal in the kitchen at the same time, or dusting the furniture, etc. Critical music listeners, look elsewhere, and be prepared to spend at least two hundred fifty to four hundred dollars for a truly good pair of bookshelf speakers such as the Infinity Beta 20s or Ascend CBM-170s.

For everyone else, meaning those who mainly watch DVDs, TV, and play video games, the Monitor series will be plenty adequate. The silk tweeters give you decent detail, the 89db sensitivity means that you don't need some massive super-powerful amp to drive these, and the double-woofer d'Apollito (midwoof-tweeter-midwoof) design of the Monitor 50 and 40 will give you a nice full midrange and room-filling output.

Quality sound for the price
I love the speakers, great sound and affordable prices. I would definitely recommend this speaker.

Polk Audio RC80i 2-Way In-Ceiling Speakers (Pair, White)
I replaced my BOZE 141 rear speakers with these in ceiling speakers and am quite pleased with the results. I had not used Polk Audio before and was concerned that they would not preform as good as the BOZE. The BOZE were not bad but only had an 80 watt handling range where the Polk have a 120 watt range. Now the sound from the rear speakers is a lot richer than before. I am well pleased.

improved my setup and easy to install
First, they were very easy to install. Second, I enjoy good quality sound, but I'm also not dumb enough to take out a second mortgage to get it. They are a great compromise for someone on a budget, yet wants something more than the cheap speakers can offer. They are much better than what I had.

I like them so much, I'm thinking about installing in-wall speakers for the front and center too.

Excellent speakers for the price
Don't spend thousands of dollars building out your surround & surround back channels - these speakers get the job done! Installation is a snap - I had four speakers installed in the back of my living room in less than an hour. Sound is phenomenal - I just can't see paying hundreds of dollars PER SPEAKER when you can get this great-sounding pair @ such a low price. These are great for surround or whole home sound - definitely a good buy.

At least they make a sound
Got these for free with my Sonos system. The price made them an extra star.
No base to mention, sharp high and mid sound make them sit in our 4 year daughters room playing audio farie-tales. They work there.

Aaaah polkaholic.
Monitor Series (front and center) brought blu-ray live. Loss less Dolby compression with monitor series in the front, i needed a rear set to match them. What a great find. Got these from frys for 50$ a pair. It took some time to break-in. These are amazing speakers, it can go low (60-65 Hz). It frees up the sub, so that sub can play the super low 20-30 Hz loud and clear. I also tested these as fronts, they can handle very well. At low to medium volumes they show their build quality. Dont try to push it too hard. Use it as a book shelf in a small room or as rear speakers. Timber matched polk living room is bar none.

Good value
For 100 dollars this subwoofer is more than enough for my bedroom.I listen to christian music all the time.

Small room base fix
Great addition to the small home theater. 16'X20' most movies require only 1/2 volume. Great throw, although I typicaly prefer a bottom firing Sub. Great value, solid polk construction. Allows you the option of reducing the base in the louds and rears cranking the sub for a wide seperation of ranges if your processor has a delay you can acheive that big IMAX sound! that is if you nieghbors will put up with you.

Excellent sub!!
Compare this sub side by side with a yamaha and a JBL, this one has much lower bass and clear sound, highly recommend!!
